NDTV on S Jaishankar's statement on Israel-Palestine: 'India Supports 2-State Solution'

While speaking in parliament today India's External affairs minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed India's long-standing support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, NDTV reports. According to the report, Jaishankar was responding to a claim made by Fellow MP in Rajya Sabha on India allegedly abstaining from all United Nations resolutions on Gaza. Since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7 last year, 13 resolutions concerning Palestine have been presented in the United Nations General Assembly out of which India voted in favour of 10 resolutions and abstained on three resolutions, Jaishankar said. Indian Express Investigation report on hospital fires in last five years

 

As per an investigation report by Indian Express, hospital fires from the last five years show a concerning pattern where accused escape punishment. The Indian Express looked at the cause and aftermath of 11 prominent hospital fires in the last five years and out of these fire incidents all but one case from earlier this year are out on bail and in seven instances, court cases are still dragging on. These incidents claimed 107 lives.  The report further states that the government agencies failed to keep a check on hospitals running on expired fire certificates. Read the full report here.

 

The Hindu Live on Maharashtra oath ceremony: Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar to take oath as Deputy CMs

The Hindu reports that Maharashtra CM elect Devendra Fadnavis's oath ceremony will take place at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai at 5.30 pm today.  It will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers, besides Chief Ministers of States ruled by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. It is believed that with Fadnavis, outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will also take oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, alongside Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Ajit Pawar. Strait Times on Prosecutors open investigation into South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol over martial law

As per a report by Strait times, South Korean prosecutors have opened an investigation into President Yoon Suk Yeol, his interior minister and the now-former defence minister Kim Yong-hyun over their roles in an attempt to impose martial law. Yong-hyun resigned over his involvement in the December 3 martial law order. Yoon imposed martial law citing unspecified threats from "anti-state forces" and obstructionist political opponents, the report says. Yoon is also facing an opposition-led impeachment motion. BBC on French political crisis, Barnier to resign as French PM after government collapse

 

After being ousted in a no-confidence vote, France's Prime Minister Michel Barnier is expected to tender his resignation today, BBC reports. Barnier was appointed as Prime minister by President Emmanuel Macron just three months ago. The report mentions that this no-confidence vote was the first time a French government had been voted down by parliament in more than 60 years. Marine Le Pen's far right and the left-wing New Popular Front both united to censure Barnier's government after the former Brexit negotiator controversially used special powers to force through his budget without a vote.
