Indian Express live updates on Parliament winter session: Amid uproar Rahul Gandhi meets LS Speaker

Indian Express reports that Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met the Speaker OM Birla and urged for discussion on all matters including the Adani row, amid uproar in both the Houses. The report notes that Rahul Gandhi asked Om birla to expunge the “derogatory” remarks made against him in the Lower House. In a unique protest, Opposition MPs greeted their BJP counterparts in Parliament premises by giving them the national flag and a red rose, urging them to ensure the House proceedings continue. Union Minister Kiran Rijiju attacked the Congress over the impeachment notice. On Tuesday, Opposition INDIA bloc MPs gave notice to bring no-confidence motion against Dhankhar. Hindustan Times on how Mumbai lawyer saved BEST bus driver's life from mob after Kurla crash

 

In a report about Mumbai's Kurla bus accident, Hindustan times gave a detailed record of how a local lawyer Siddique Ashif Hussain and Mumbai Police personnel turned saviour for Sanjay More, BEST bus driver, who was assaulted by an angry mob after the electric vehicle driven by him ran amok and killed seven people on a busy road in Kurla (West) on Monday night. Hussain, is a resident of the area near the accident site, he acted swiftly and intervened when he noticed a mob attacking the bus driver, the report adds. Sanjay More was later arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other provisions under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Read the full report here.

 

‘Open’ to bringing new law to regulate AI: The Hindu's report on Vaishnaw in Parliament

The government on Wednesday said it is "open to the idea" of bringing in a new law to regulate artificial intelligence but a "lot of consensus" is required for it. The Hindu reports that IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was responding to a question in the Lok Sabha and said that the Modi government believes in "democratising technology", which was not the case during the Congress rule, remarks that triggered protests by opposition benches, report further states. He was responding to a supplementary on whether the government plans to bring a law on regulating artificial intelligence. The Straits Times: South Korea’s Yoon seeks to fight on as probes mount

The Straits Times reports that President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol plans to fight against impeachment, rather than step down from his post early. Amid a deepening probe into his martial law declaration and looming impeachment vote, Yoon rejected the idea of quitting before the end of his term in February or March 2025. As per the report, Yoon would rather fight an impeachment with a presidential election. The report further states that the political crisis in South Korea has deepened with the arrest of former defence minister Kim Yong-hyun and his attempt to take his own life, and with the opposition Democratic Party preparing to file another impeachment motion in Parliament following the failed vote on December 7. Al Jazeera live updates on Syria: Israel carries out 480 attacks, and banks and shops reopen

 

After rebels ousted Bashar Al Asad from Syria, Israel’s military says it carried out 480 attacks on Syria in the past 48 hours, destroying 15 naval vessels, anti-aircraft batteries and weapons production sites in several cities, reports Aljazeera. The report Also states that Syria’s caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed al-Bashir says Syrians need “stability and calm” and that he’s working with officials from Bashar al-Assad’s regime to reset public services and institutions. Plus, Syrian opposition fighters say they’ve taken over the northeastern city of Deir Az Zor from Kurdish forces. Read the full report here.
