NDTV reports, tension over firing in Manipur's Ukhrul, Kuki and Naga tribes trade charges
Gunfire was reported from a village in Manipur's Ukhrul district today, raising concerns over the security situation in the state. NDTV reports that the residents of Ukhrul's Sinakeithei village alleged the firing has been going on since Thursday afternoon. The Sinakeithei Village Authority secretary alleged Kuki insurgents opened fire with automatic weapons from multiple directions at 3.20 pm Thursday. It reportedly triggered retaliatory firing from Tangkhul Naga village volunteers, leading to a firefight that went on for over an hour. Read the full report here.
Satellite shows India shrouded in massive cloud cover as rain hits, India Today

India was seen blanketed under an expansive layer of dense cloud cover on Friday, India Today reports, as satellite imagery highlighted the widespread impact of an active Western Disturbance sweeping across northern parts of the country. The system, driven by a pronounced trough line, has brought moderate to intense spells of rainfall across several regions, particularly in North India. The report says that according to weather assessments, the next 6-8 hours remain critical for northern states as the most intense segment of the trough lies in close proximity to the region. Several injured as turbulence hits Delta flight into Sydney, BBC reports
Several people have been injured after a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by turbulence on Friday morning, BBC reports. Delta Flight 41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it landed at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson told the BBC. Four flight attendants were injured, and no passengers were hurt, the airline said. The report says that the New South Wales Ambulance Service said it assessed five patients in total, and took three to hospital with minor injuries that included back pain and headaches. Expert panel formed to vet revised NCERT chapter on judiciary: Hindustan Times
The Union government on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it has constituted an expert committee that includes two former top court judges and a former attorney general, to review the controversial NCERT Class 8 social science chapter on the judiciary, in compliance with the court’s earlier directions issued in the wake of the recent textbook row. Hindustan Times reports that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told a bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant that the panel will comprise senior advocate and former Attorney General KK Venugopal, former Supreme Court judge Justice Indu Malhotra and former Supreme Court judge and current National Judicial Academy director Justice Aniruddha Bose, along with a vice chancellor. Asia turns to coal as Iran war rapidly shrinks supplies of gas, The Straits Times

War in the Middle East is forcing Asia to turn to coal to plug the gaping hole emerging in its supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), The Straits Times reports. Nations from South Korea to Indonesia and Bangladesh are prioritising coal as a power source, the report says, as the intensifying conflict upends gas supplies from a key exporting region. Among the worst hit countries is Qatar, home to the world’s biggest LNG export facility that Asian customers rely on. Read the full report here.
