Gauhati High Court reserves order on Pawan Khera's anticipatory bail plea

The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday reserved an order after hearing a plea by Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, where he sought anticipatory bail in connection with a criminal case filed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma over allegations related to multiple passports and undisclosed overseas assets. NDTV reports that the order is not expected on Wednesday. Khera, the chairman of AICC's media and publicity, had alleged in two press conferences held in New Delhi and Guwahati on April 5 that the CM's wife possessed three passports of UAE, Egypt and Antigua-Barbuda, two properties in Dubai and assets in shell companies. Congress moves privilege notice against PM Modi over address to nation: Indian Express

 

The Congress on Tuesday moved a privilege notice against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly “having cast aspersions” on the “independence and integrity” of elected MPs during his address to the nation on Saturday night, Indian Express reports. In a notice for privilege proceedings against the Prime Minister to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress MP KC Venugopal said that on Saturday, the Prime Minister of India addressed the nation on national television, following the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on April 17, 2026, which failed to secure the required two-thirds majority as required under the provisions of Article 368 of the Constitution. Japan to ban use of portable chargers on flights from April 24: The Straits Times

Japan’s Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry is set to ban the use of portable chargers on airplanes, with the new policy to take effect on April 24, The Straits Times reports. In addition, the number of regular chargers that travellers will be permitted to bring on board will be limited to two. Due to the recent occurrence of fires on domestic and international flights caused by portable chargers with lithium-ion batteries, the ministry has revised the relevant notice, the report says. In Bengal, ECI orders tourists to leave Digha, Mandarmani coastal resorts: Hindustan Times

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered tourists and non-residents to vacate popular coastal destinations in Purba Medinipur district, including Digha, Mandarmani, Tajpur, Udaipur and Shankarpur by Tuesday evening. Hindustan Times reports that an order issued by the office of Bengal’s chief electoral officer also directs hotels to ensure that their rooms are not occupied by any person who is not a resident of the district, with effect from 6pm on Tuesday till the conclusion of polling on April 23. The coastal belt of Purba Medinipur draws tourists year-round and is among the most visited destinations in West Bengal, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Iran warns it has 'new cards' if fighting resumes, BBC reports

 

Iran's parliamentary speaker said that Tehran is preparing "new cards on the battlefield" if fighting with the US resumes, BBC reports. Meanwhile US President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement "numerous times", without providing further details. A truce between the two countries is due to expire on Wednesday, the report mentions.  US media reported that Vice-President JD Vance will travel to Pakistan on Tuesday, but Tehran hasn’t confirmed it will send a delegation for talks in Islamabad.
