700-km Yatra launched to save Aravalli Hills from mining doom, NDTV reports
In a bold call to arms for one of India's most ancient geological treasures, NDTV reports that environmentalists, community leaders, and affected residents launched the 'Aravalli Sanrakshan Yatra' - a 700-kilometer foot march to safeguard the Aravalli mountain range, widely regarded as the world's oldest surviving mountain system and North West India's vital shield against desertification. The yatra was officially announced by the Aravalli Virasat Jan Abhiyan, a diverse coalition uniting noted environmentalists, ecologists, lawyers, researchers, social activists, and rural-urban communities from the four Aravalli states: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. Bail for Sagar Gorkhe and Ramesh Gaichor, The Wire

The Bombay high court on Friday granted bail to cultural activists Sagar Gorkhe and Ramesh Gaichor, arrested in connection with the 2018 Elgar Parishad case, The Wire reports. Both Gorkhe and Gaichor were arrested on September 2, 2020, and have suffered incarceration ever since. The report says that a division bench of Justices AS Gadkari and SC Chandak granted bail on the applications filed appealing against the February 2022 order of the special NIA court in Mumbai. Pakistan mall fire death toll jumps to 67, BBC reports
The death toll in a fire which engulfed a shopping centre in Pakistan has climbed to 67, police have confirmed. BBC reports as per the police that 77 people are currently reported as missing by their families following the fire at Gul Plaza, in Pakistan's largest city Karachi, on Saturday evening. But the scale of the damage following the blaze - which took more than 24 hours to put out - has slowed rescue efforts, as authorities comb the remains of the 6,500sq m complex. Indian Express: HC notice to state after UK doctor detained at Mumbai airport
Indian Express reports that the Bombay High Court on Thursday issued notice to the state government and other respondents seeking their reply to a plea by a UK doctor and YouTuber Sangram Patil seeking to quash an FIR against him for alleged objectionable social media posts against BJP leaders. A British national of Indian origin, Patil also alleged that the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against him by the Mumbai police was illegal, the report says. A single-judge bench of Justice Ashwin D Bhobe issued notice to the respondents and posted the next hearing to February 4. Read the full report here.
Trump revokes Canada’s invitation to join Board of Peace: Al Jazeera

United States President Donald Trump has withdrawn an invitation for Canada to join his Board of Peace initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts, Al Jazeera reports, a step in what appeared to be a retaliatory move following Prime Minister Mark Carney’s speech at the World Economic Forum. In his speech to world leaders in Davos, Switzerland, Carney openly decried powerful nations using economic integration as weapons and tariffs as leverage, and urged nations to accept the end of a rules-based global order, receiving a rare standing ovation. Trump recently threatened a trade war against European countries which oppose his bid to acquire Greenland, an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, the report adds.
