Kerala sees Monsoon hold-up despite early IMD prediction, Firstpost reports

Monsoon might be delayed in India this year as the country reels under scorching heat, with most parts in the north recording a maximum temperature of over 45 degrees, Firstpost reports. The Indian Meteorological Department had said in its forecast that monsoons would arrive in the southern state of Kerala on May 26, but the state is still awaiting raindrops to hit its grounds. The date, however, was a modest forecast as the weather agency traditionally sets June 1 as the onset of the monsoon in Kerala, the report mentions. Read the full report here.
BBC on US launching new strikes on Iran, targeting missile sites and boats
The US said it launched new strikes on southern Iran, targeting Iranian missile sites and boats attempting to place mines. BBC reports that the strikes were taken in "self-defense" and were designed "to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces", as per a US Central Command statement. Central Command spokesperson Capt Tim Hawkins said the US military "continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire" between the two countries. Second autopsy ordered after Tiger death near Bandhavgarh Reserve, NDTV reports
NDTV reports that the death of an adult tiger near Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh has now triggered a second autopsy, even as speculation grows over whether tranquilisation during the rescue operation had any link to the animal's death. The six-year-old tiger had reportedly died in Kherwa Tola village, located close to the Panpatha buffer zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria district, after killing a woman and injuring at least three others. The reserve is known to house one of the densest tiger populations in Madhya Pradesh. Read the full report here.
The Straits Times: Rescue team confident of reaching 7 trapped for days in Laos cave

A rescue team racing to save seven people trapped for days in a cave in Laos is getting closer to reaching them, the head of the operation said, after breaking through 15m of obstacles in a day. The Straits Times reports that the seven entered the cave in Laos’ central Xaisomboun province on May 20 but got trapped by a landslide triggered by heavy rain, according to a local rescue group and the state-run Lao Phattana News. A Thai rescue team joined the operation on May 24 and reported significant progress towards reaching the chamber where the group was trapped. Read the full report here.
